Children’s University

In 2026, Wiripaang Public School will be running Children's University for the first time.

The Children’s University (Newcastle) is an exciting educational program from the

University of Newcastle designed for children who love to learn! It encourages young learners to explore new learning opportunities both locally and online, helping them discover educational experiences beyond their regular schoolwork. With a focus on creativity and personal choice, the program allows students to choose activities that interest them, from after-school clubs to community events, and even online learning challenges.

Program Highlights:

• Open to All Children: Children’s University is available to all students who enjoy learning, no matter their interests.
• Self-Directed Learning: Children have the freedom to select activities they want to do, when and where they want to do them. The program promotes independent learning and discovery.
• Learning Beyond the Classroom: The program acknowledges and tracks learning outside the school day—whether before school, during lunch, after school, or in the school holidays.
• Passport to Learning: Each participant receives a passport where they can log their hours of learning. There are various certificate levels to work towards, starting from a minimum of 30 hours in the first year, culminating in a community graduation ceremony at the end of Term 4. Children can continue to earn hours and move through levels over the years, with a maximum of 1,000 hours.

Debating and public speaking

Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.

Creative and performing arts

Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.

Trips and excursions

Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
